Floods in Greater Manchester & we see off the High Peak Hunt

The front page of the Express carries this dramatic pic of the flooding caused by the rain yesterday  although the story inside the Express concentrates on the Army being deployed to Cumbria to assist there.  - - -

The Manchester Evening News carries this lengthy article about the flooding after the Boxing Day Deluge showing the effects of the water in Greater Manchester area
================================
Locally yesterday being Boxing Day it was time to go and support the High Peak Hunt which leaves from the Agricultural Centre in Bakewell.  Until a few years ago it used to leave from almost the centre of Town and looked even more of a spectacle than it does nowadays
we arrived rather early so i walked onto the metal bridge leading form the Agricultural Centre into Town. It was grey old day and the river looked to be a little above the normal depth.  The Temp was over 12c but the wind made it feel decidedly colder. I realised looking up the river that if i had not "retired" i would be stacking bread right then!
 the hounds arrive just after 11:00 with the Hunstman and his whippers in to control the hounds, there don't appear to be as many hounds as a few years ago'
riders of all ages then start to arrive and the stirrup cups are handed round

after afew words thanking the hunt supporters the Master gives the signal and the hounds set off leading out of the agricultural centre.  The hills in the background are part of the Chatsworth and Haddon estates
the hunt still rides through the centre of town due to the cattle grid layout of the centre
its freezing by now and we have had a couple of spots of rain so Sally and Jim our friend watch from the warmth of his vehicle.
ok off they go and its time to beat a hasty retreat back to sit by the log burner !!

LM has still not got the idea of this Christmas Present toy that came with his bag of Christmas goodies.  Its an egg shaped container with a weight in the base. Its filled with biscuits and has a couple of holes in the side.  If he taps or moves it the biscuits fall out, but all he has done so far is walk around it and sniff it! - - -

the http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ current chart shows the high winds are down the south of England along with the rain this morning.
==================================
 cooler than of late this morning with the Temp just below 6c
 nothing to see on the weathercam yet but a rather eerie glow from the moon which is obviously just off to the right of the shot

UPDATE 07:45
Not looking too bad from the weathercam, a bit of clear sky overhead but that wedge of cloud on the left extends a long way to the South
==========================================
The weather locally is set to give us a a few half decent dry days before the rain apparently returns on Wednesday with a vengeance.  It is then set to cool significantly  as we get towards Saturday when Metcheck even see it cold enough to snow
=========================
I'll probably visit the logging site and attempt to get the trunk rounds smashed into firewood and undercover by the weekend.
===================================
Enjoy the day
