Chunnel runner? potty decision! & Dull weather still with us

I was reading about this about the "Chunnel Runner" yesterday and wondered why he had been given asylum just because he walked through the chunnel this should never have happened .  He was going to be charged with some old obstruction law but now he has been granted asylum it appears that maybe dropped.  He bucked the asylum rule that says he should have claimed asylum in the first country he hit after leaving his own - - - what is going on? - - - The dame edna story behind the headline is amusing

This just so sounds like another Microsoft ploy to get everyone on W7 to W10 the 7 operating system is being serviced by M until 2020 so what's the problem can't they secure their own stuff  maybe including W10?

I get an e mail regularly about the Windows operating system and I'm glad I trawled through the one that had this link in it - - - Its title is "10 Neglected Windows Superpowers - Access" - - - try it - - -

I had an odd sensation yesterday when i sat down at the computer first thing i needed to remind myself where things were rather than being on "autopilot".  I'd had a similar experience last year after working all day in the garden but put it down to dehydration.  Anyway I'm keeping a record from now on in case anything is amiss !!!
 =============
Sally mentioned the river was higher than usual after her morning walk yesterday so i popped out to take a look, sure enough after the "all day rain" we had the previous day it was quite high
walking up river a 100 yds or so this is where a small stream joins the river and generally the shingle washed down into the river from the stream is exposed.  This view with its apparent waves is where the, now deeper water is riding over the shingle barrier
the river is higher, no doubt about that however!
this pic from 06/02/2011 shows it at its highest that we have ever seen!
the view up river from the same spot as the last pic
later on in the day i wandered out again and thank goodness the level had fallen a foot or so
I thought i would walk down the Peak Railway to the signal and then back across the fields.I've blogged about the cycle path before especially opposite our house where some of the trees partially obstructing our view from the garden are being removed to make way for the path.   When i saw this bit i was amazed!! the trees on the right obviously represent some kind of Peak Rail Boundary and the cycle path is being routed between the trees and the metal fence, note the scruffy Peak Rail car park through the trees on the right, begs the question, why isn't the cycle track on the edge of that?
In the distance are 2 machines which are being used to grub up all the old trees and bushes, once thats done presumably a similar hard core base that has covered the old footpath by the railway will be laid at some "considerable cost" .  The whole project as i have whined on about before is being funded in part by the Ministry of Transport while half a mile away on the A6 there are 6 inch deep 2 foot wide potholes breaking the springs on my van?  Am i missing a logic somewhere
grumbling into my firmly zipped up jacket cos its pretty cold i must admit to seeing 1 cyclist 1 dog walker and 6 lady joggers on the new cycle track by the railway so at least we locals are using the damn thing
The pic above this one is showing a small lake that has formed in a field next to the new cycle path and OK it has rained excessively lately and its a soggy field at the best of times but i cant help wondering if the compacting of the new path has affected the drainage, the gate in the pic is for a footpath which runs from the A6  at the top of the field
I knew i shouldn't have come this way, I thought as I plodded and skidded across the field churned up by the sheep who have been strip feeding the fields of "root crop" i have mentioned before.  Take note of the black blob, an old tree stump, in the middle of the pic - - - see below
This is a pic of the same field obviously a few years ago just as the tree was starting to be ravaged by Honey fungus around the base roots and another fungus in the branches on the right hand side.  If you stood up close to it there were countless initials and hearts carved into it going back to the early 1900's. It was felled by the landowner after failed to produce leaves one year obviously having succumbed to the fungus attack - - -
Not fungus but river bank erosion put paid to this quite large tree some time ago. It still has some root attached to the bank but i wonder as the river level go's up and down how long it will remain like this? - - -

The current XC weather "raining now" chart looks pretty grim but analysis of it shows the blobs of raincloud are quite bitty so it might not be too bad out this morning the general trend of the wind direction locally is from the South
On the cold side of mild and with a little breeze its going to be a chilly day
weathercam is showing mist/fog on the rim of the valley, it has rained overnight so the soggy saga continues.  Time for a walk along White Edge this morning to our lunch venue, here's hoping the fog clears for some good pics
