One by one my "squirrel proof" feeders have been consigned to the greenhouse at the top of the garden.  A number of times during the summer they have indeed kept away the squirrels and more importantly the jackdaws.  Increasingly into Autumn and now winter i have been throwing away mouldy peanuts and fat balls.  I finally abandoned the peanut feeder and fat ball feeder because the birds just don't appear to be feeding from them and i dumped the green remains of food on the garden.

Wanting to see the effect of the Monday downpours on the river level i ventured across the road yesterday
First i notice the extension to a local contractors yard is almost complete.  The route for our multi million £ cycle track had to be such that his yard was encroached on but he worked a deal to his advantage in the end.
Sure enough even days after the event the outfall stones are not showing as they were last week
there are still a few leaves on the trees but i guess the recent rain has dislodged most of them onto the track
standing on the outfall stones i can see how the water must have been higher soon after Monday's rain
walking down the river and looking across to the meadow view i spotted what i was after
clearly on the other bank i could see a line where the water must have reached.  The grass below the line is all pointing downriver having been swept that way by the water rushing by
A little further and I gaze across the field up to the folly on the  Nine Ladies hill
Its much easier to see than in summer with the leaves on the trees
I hear of a huge tree in the river down at Darley bridge and going about my errands later in the day i pop down to see it
there's the usual pile of trees and debris almost blocking the river
but the huge tree dumped by the torrent on the garden belonging to the house looks a serious contender!
looking at it I'm thinking it might be the one i have been observing throughout the year upstream of the bridge that has been lying in the river but still attached to the bank for ages.  Once i returned home i wandered over to the location and it's still there.  The depth of the torrent water can also be seen here due to the debris high up in its horizontal branches.  pity i missed it all there would have been some good photos to be had!

The banners have a tale from the US about Mrt T putting back a bust of Churchill removed previously from the White House Not so says this Mirror story but there's a twist?  The other banner covers abuse in care homes for elderly.  Stories of abuse abound in the media at the moment ! - - -
The main headline is another accolade to us quitting the EU.  This type of headline is getting a little tedious - - - when's it going to happen! - - -

a short video of illegal fireworks being destroyed in peru.  A law about fireworks had to be passed after 300 people died in a firework factory explosion in 2002 - - -  wonder why they didn't do it at night?
