Back home its looking like there has been lots and lots of rain and today also looks like it will be much the same.
52.3mm of rain yesterday and overnight ! now that's a lot.  Quite cool at almost 6c
I can see the rain dripping off my "seaweed" on the wearthercam.  The floods in the Manchester area are all over the news this morning.

For Darley Dale today, The Met O has a heavy shower day then turning to a light shower day right through until 18:00 when it will turn to drizzle overnight into Wednesday top temp will be 7c with winds around 20 - 25mph .  Yahoo weather has a rainy day with a top temp of 7.2 and winds at 4 - 9 mph.
todays Lake District weather
Up here in the Lake District its raining at Ambleside its windy and rainy with snow above 600m.  Today the Met O has us with light rain just about all day and a top temp of just 6c.  winds will be strong depending what altitude you are at with mentions of 50 mph easing to 25mph in the evening

We set off from home yesterday at around 07:15 hoping to be in time for Sally to catch the crusier around Ullswater while i had a stroll up to the lake just below Helvellyn.  Ah the best laid plans! - - - starting off well we reached the traffic lights that signal the queue into Manchester quite quickly but then it was agonisingly slow for about an hour.  Our first 50 miles was achieved at a speed of 25mph!
Stopping at Rivington services we noticed how freezing cold it felt - - - shades of things to come.
Leaving the M6 we drove across to Windermere and then took a sharp right up the Kirkstone pass.  We had seen the snow covering the mountains form the motorway and now it was up close.  At the top we stopped
the wind was blowing and it was really cold
the surrounding hills looke great
Sally takes some photos on her phone
down in Glennridding Sally was half an hour late for the morning sailing and looking up towards the route up to Helvellyn in the rain i "re-assessed" my intentions and we decided just to look around the village.  The photo above is a stark reminder of the floods that hit the village as a result of Storm Desmond back in Dec 2015.  The photo on the fence shows water pouring into the already flooded river.  The actual buildings are over the river in the shot
the clean up is still going on as this digger and other machine still clear rubble from the river just by the bridge that was almost swept away
On what was once a meadow by the lake there are now thousands and thousands of tons of silt and stone taken from the surrounding buildings streets and rivers - - - unbelievable
After lunch in Ambleside we perused the Christmas display at a local garden centre and then made our way to the Waterhead Hotel and settled in to watch the rain!

The banner has a stark warning about the winter weather
while the main headline slips from Brexit happiness to gloom as TM the PM indicates a slow EU exit - - - get it right or not at all!
The Star picks up on the weather warning from the express as it claims we will have the coldest winter for 5 years.
