I was about to throw my version of the pond filter below away yesterday after replacing it last week with a new filter box type unit.
It hadn't worked well for ages and i think it might have contributed to last years less than crystal clear pond. As the day was very sunny and working outside a bit of a pleasure i decided to strip it down to take a look at it. It didn't take long to suss out that the water which is meant to percolate up through a series of sponges before going back into the pond wasn't doing this. I managed to remedy this and so it is now sitting in its original place and if the pond shows signs of going murky i'll re-commission it.

After the frosty start the sky remained clear and the sun provided great light conditions for photos
the view up to the Nine Ladies hill looked magnificent
A little less so across the field that had the root crop in it all last year. It was a mud bath most of the time when the sheep started eating the stuff. The owner has now ploughed it all up including the footpath i think, i wonder what will be going in it this time
the water level isn't too high and the water is nice and clear
the roots of the old tree are still hanging onto the bank so i cant see it being washed downstream just yet
I took the same pic a few days ago and the ransoms are definitely on the move even though its still quite cold
later on it was warm enough to sit out by the pond and once LM realised we were there he joined us
he obviously enjoyed sitting on the slate warmed by the sunshine.

WEATHER TODAY
The sunshine of yesterday looked to be on the cards because we had a hard frost this morning, the clouds however have come along and we have had a couple of very light rain showers already
It was below freezing until 08:00 but the clouds have arrived and the Temp is rising
