Foggy in the lakes 3rd day

Having taken advantage of the great weather on our first 2 days we set forth today to walk up into the woods at the side of the hotel.  I had forgotten to mention that at breakfast yesterday we saw an Otter swimming across the lake right in front of the hotel
climbing up the steep track from the main road we are soon rewarded with a rather misty view of Lake Windermere
the mist and fog though don't detract from the magnificent vista from Jenkin Crag
Sally enjoys the view a little further form the edge
some of the trees are Douglas Firs and over 50 metres  tall
back down at lake level "we have a cunning plan".  Noticing yesterday that the fog only extends a short way up the mountains we decide to take a packed lunch up to the top of Kirkstone pass which will be in the sunshine!
Wrong! the top of the pass is also shrouded in mist and fog which is getting thicker by the minute.  We have our lunch and then descend back to the hotel in the rain
