GB win the Davis Cup & Another wet and windy day here

After all the hype and worries about the Davis Cup final being in Belgium and on clay the The Great Britain team led by Andy Murray win the day ! - - -
============================
after Black Friday, its now time for Cyber Monday in the round of sales, - - - might give that one a miss
===================================
another windy rainy day from the look of the http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ chart and other forecasters generally agree - - -
==============================
while The weather channel tells us its going to be an altogether "Very unsettled week ahead"
===============================
finally, This Metro story says "Prepare yourselves because the weather is going to be awful today "
===========================
Its my last day on my current 4 day shift pattern and its likely i will work all of my final one 11-14 Dec, there were mumblings about me "having" to take some of the 42 hours holiday that i'm owed but nothings been said so far. - - -
=====================================
 a chilly 4.9c at present and the rain is pouring down right now
no weathercam pic yet but when it does get light it will undoubtedly be showing a cloudy grey sky - - -

some climate change stuff & A wet and windy day for us

A Wet and windy day is the forecast by looking at the XCweather chart this morning, locally we are only at 5mph just now
=========================
With the Climate change conference starting soon  this article discusses peoples doubts about the causes of it.  We are told that "change just happens" and surely it does but one theory is that, yes change is happening but our carbon emissions etc are just storing up problems for much later on - - -
===================================
I have been telling some of the regulars at the shop that i'm leaving and the reactions and comments have been amusing I'll blog some of them Tuesday morn - - -
==========================
 The Temp is almost on what i call the mild side which is when its anything plus of 8.  just a hint of a breeze now and some light rain
no pic on the weathercam and the light cloud at the moment is making the moonglow almost invisible.  The day is forecast to be wet and blustery with winds even getting to plus 50mph inland - - -

A few windy days to come methinks

I like this from the Metro  already sick of Black Friday, make it a "buy nothing day instead"
The XCweather picture shows what its like now with the winds starting to strengthen on the West coast of England  which look like gradually working their way into the country throughout the day and into tomorrow
===================================
this chart is part of a story in the Mail about the weekend weather, hold onto your hats if its correct - - -
===============================
 A cold Temp this morning just above zero but no sign of the winds yet
the weathercam has an eerie glow in the top right corner from the moon which is just out of shot

Thank goodness its Balck Friday, "sick of the adverts!" & an early Fun Factory start for me

Thank goodness its "Black Friday " !!!!
================================

The XC weather chart shows no let up in Scotland for the windy conditions, down here its calm at present but the wind might return later
================================
 quite a mild Temp start with an accompanying breeze right now, its forecast to be a wet grey day
its an early morning start for me so no weathercam to see
==========================================
Today and tomorrow i shall be starting at 07:00 in the Fun Factory at least i get a head start before the crowds arrive
===================================
We had a trip out to Ladybower Reservoir yesterday and finished up walking the whole 6 miles around it.  The day was quite dull but i got plenty of pics and will blog them another time

Coldest winter for a century! & We might get some of our garden view back!

This Mail article  once again bangs the drum about this winter being the coldest in a century.  The chances seem remote but the minus Temps we had over the latest cold snap show how cold it can get in the UK overnight - - -
=================================
This 2 and a half minute video shows the effect of climate change on The Rhone Glacier in Switzerland - - - can it be reversed? - - -
====================================
The current XCweather picture shows a pretty calm outlook for now,  it hints that tomorrow might be windier and this fits in with other agency predictions about another change in the weather pattern
====================================
 i decided to walk up to a picnic spot we have used before and the normal start point is along the river
 the Defender at left looked to be checking the riverbank for fishermen but i didnt spot any
 a large wedge of cloud looked to be heading our way
 and it was even more prominent as i climbed the hill
 it looked as if the rain was approaching but it came to nought
 finally making the picnic spot my chiselling is still there alongside a recording from 1886
 the view is still amazing even in the wintery weather, i decided to walk along the ridge to see if i could locate a footpath but alas a series of small deep re-entrants barred the way.  Maybe thats why the picnic spot is so exclusive there isnt a regular path to or from it
 coming down the same track i walked up the cloud cover appears to have receded a bit and the sun is appearing from behind the clouds
 a little further down the track i was going to have a nosey into the East Lodge gardens and as i looked down to get nearer to their wall i spotted this shaggy parasol, Lepiota Rhacodes although i believe the Latin name has been changed to  Chlorophyllum Rhacodes in recent publications
 and just a foot or so away a couple of young specimens of the same
 not wanting to walk back down the river i cut up a little used footpath from the A6 and spotted this muck spreader going about its business in an adjacent field
looking up the field this is the forest that is getting some felling attention, by the look of the tree trunks piled up at its far end my comment that its only the firs that are being felled looks correct
===============================
 i dumped most of the nasturtiums from the garden at the re-cycle point later in the day and on returning Sally mentioned an unusual noise coming from the Peak Rail area.  I could just see one of those machines that is used to chew up branches from trees and later wandered across to see what had been happening
 its looking like the the cycle track work is about to commence right opposite our house and the trees blocking part of our view might be coming down.
The ones with the red spots will be removed but curiously the silver birch in the pic look like they might be spared.
Its as if the cycle path is going to be hard up against the houses boundaries to enable some trees to be left along its left hand side, whatever the outcome removing all or some of the trees will allow us to get some of our hillside view back which the growing trees have obscured over the years - - - interesting and worth watching.
====================================
 on the cool side right now with the 6.5c Temp but no wind at all just now
on the weathercam the cloud is almost covering the whole of the sky, the forecasters are split between some saying it might rain later and others that we might have rain at any-time during the day.  Most weather agencies agree there's another cold period approaching in the next few days

Virtual Booing in Hong Kong & pond plant removal

What's the old saying ? "you wouldnt get me on one of those!" The latest flight of the Amazon Entrepreneur Jeff Bezoz's spaecraft looks slightly alarming in the articles video  especially the returning to earth shots.  The story hints at manned flights next year - - i don't think I'll be in the queue  - - -
I've heard of GM crops but a GM fruit fly is a new one to me.  A British company , Oxitec, have re-engineered the Mediterranean fruit fly to help the Australians combat its own fly problem which causes millions of dollars worth of damage to fruit crops every year .  Once the GM fly mates with its wild members the females dont reach the adult stage and die before they can damage crops - - - The Australians are conducting indoor assessments before venturing out into their coutryside! - - -
======================================
I suppose you could call this Virtual Booing! Hong Kong residents who still dont see themselves as part of China register their disdain at the Chinese National Anthem before a football game in Hong Kong - - -
===================================
the http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ chart for today shows the West coast still having the strong winds of late while in our area it will still be breezy but settling down by the end of the day
================================
The Weather Channel fronts their prediction with this delightful pic and is saying that the mild weather will only last until the weekend when its expected to be cold again.
there is even a story from New South Wales showing people on Freshwater Beach basking in what is described as a Heatwave.  The 35c temps for this Springtime are being fired by a large high pressure system moving across from Western Australia
========================================
 It was time to clear out the dead foliage from the pond plants and yesterday with its 7c temp seemed a good time to do it.  Normally we would have done it in October but with the mild weather we left it a little longer.  The water lilly was pulled out and its long stems and pads clipped before it was lowered back into the water
 next year we are only having the Arum Lilly in the pond tight up against the bridge.  Amongst this lot its the green leaved bit in the middle.
 the individual plants are in plastic shopping baskets and here i have managed to pull one out onto the side to let it drain.  A number of frogs were hiding in the plant and jumped back into the pond
 some time later after much heaving and straining i finally cleared the plants and the lilly can be seen by the bridge.  The fine filament net we originally had wouldn't cover the whole area so i replaced it with the one in the pic.  We'll leave this one on until spring when hopefully we will get another fine one.
having sorted the pond we lunched at The Grouse later than usual so it was packed.  Looking outside the weather just got worse and worse so by the time we emerged the wind and rain were really coming down as we made our way home
=====================================
 mild this morning and the breeze is up and down the single figure speeds at the moment
the weathercam is dry and cloudy just now. forecasters are confident the Tep will reach 10c this afternoon but the breezy conditions will remain with us.
