Walk for more years & its a soggy morn here

 The main story will help Sally on her walk in the rain this morning knowing that a "Brisk daily walk adds 7 years to your life",  the banner headline about banning jobless migrants looks like its just a "pipe dream" - - -
The Mail changes the Express's "Brisk" to read 20 mins but the "theme" is the same - - - obviously  a slack soggy news day in both camps - - -
=========================================
True to form the Bank holiday Weather was predictable  although i did water the garden yesterday and it then promptly rained.  The prediction is that a fortnight of rain might fall in the south of England today but it looks as if almost all of England will be wet for the next few days - - - great pics in the link above - - -
========================
Hurricane Ignacio  seems not to worry the Hawaiian islanders so much as the accompanying rain that might come along with it.  The main event is set for tonight but Islanders are saying it will be "business as usual" - - -
==========================================
 this old quarry was scheduled to be turned into a number of holiday homes but it would appear to now be "on hold"
 apart from making a large hole in the main road boundary wall not a great deal appears to be going on
 down near Churchtown i think it must be a few years since any water came out of this pump
 looking up to the Nine Ladies hill the sky is filling with clouds
 we used to see a number of hares in this field until it was planted some years ago.  Now it looks to be grass again we might spot them next year
 these Wax Cap mushrooms are enjoying the damp early morn conditions
 the sheep look interested in my passing
 the scene down on the river looks idyllic
both Sally and I noticed one of the swan parents seems to be absent.  The tents over the river turn out to be some kind of clay pigeon shooting day if the later in the day noise is anything to go by. - - -
=========================================
weather right now
 not a bad Temp right now but the overnight rain is persisting
the weathercam has a rainy look to it this morning and forecasts are indicating it could be with us most of the day

Promise of "Another" arthritis cure & crow for breakfast

Another cure for Arthritis on the front of the Express although the story hints the "revolutionary stem cell therapy" could be five years away - - -
=====================
Tropical storm Erika might have been downgraded but its still dumping rain like there's no tomorrow in the Caribbean.  12 inches of rain fell in less than 10 hours on Dominica which seems to have taken the brunt of the storm.  this story has an incredible video of a swollen river with black floodwater looking like it will destroy the bridge any second.
======================
The Hawaiian islands also look set for a battering as a trio of Category 4 hurricanes are racing across the Pacific.  Hurricane Ignacio is set to pass close to the North of the islands on Monday night - - -
=====================
local weather now
 no hurricanes here on a cool start to the day at 10c
the weathercam has a cloudy aspect and forecasters are sure of rain this afternoon but once again divided on when and how much - - -
i think this is a crow having a visit to the birdfeeders for breakfast, it looks with suspicion at the camera a number of times during its stay!

Tropical storm Erika hits Dominica & Swans and Cygnets on the river

The Express tells us something we already know but hints at having pics inside the pages - - -
===========================
Tropical storm Erika  wreaks havoc and causes at least 20 deaths on the island of Dominica in the Caribbean.  It is set to hit Florida on Sunday - - -
=======================
 yesterday it was time for an early morning walk after Sally said she had seen lots of mushrooms on her morning constitutional
 the new pond is now full and a huge stone has been erected at its southern end.  This view looks West with a wooded Peak Tor just left of centre and Overhaddon village in the distance
 a little further on and almost the same view from the top of the golf course
 i spot a group of cows moving from one field to another and rush to get a pic which causes a bit of a panic, the last one here gets separated from its calf and spends a minute or so trotting up and down the wall before it realises i'm not a threat and rejoins the others
 these huge leaves are under the forest canopy and are 4ft tall and in excess of a foot across
 nice view across the river
 it wasnt long ago that this bit of track was flanked by the wild garlic Ransoms, all gone now as Autumn is creeping up on us
i wandered into the field that Sally mentioned the mushrooms were in but couldnt find them.  She had also told me about the pair of swans with the 5 cygnets in the river and i was rewarded with watching them glide effortlessly by - - -
===========================
the Thorn Apple in the front garden is sporting 2 fruit that make it obvious why it is named so - - -
===========================
weather right now
 the Temp. is slightly above the single figure of yesterday
the weathercam pic is little gloomy and i can see a patchy band of rain on the radar only half an hour or so away from us.  The forecast for today has only a 5% chance of rain between 12:00 & 18:00.

Dont scratch that irritating little mole! & old friends in the garden sharing the sunshine

The express headline looks as if it should be juxtaposed with one a while back saying doctors are prescribing too many antibiotics!  its a fact that a few years ago a study proved certain antibiotics raise blood sugar levels.  This study comes from Denmark and looks to have solid foundations - - -
==========================
With the bank holiday upon us its looking like the usual chaos on our roads and "the weather" is predicted to be typically Bank Holiday,ish.  On Saturday predictions are that the South East will get thunderstorms and Sunday will be a "messy one" according to a forecaster from the meteogroup - - - we shall wait and watch - - -
=====================
The moral of this story has to be dont scratch that irritating mole! this woman from China has a horn growing out of her head which started off as an itchy mole! - - -
======================
LM is not amused when one of the "new cats on the block" decides to sit on his patch, the stand off came to nothing as "ginger" wandered off back to his own patch
=================================
A couple of friends from Hereford share the late afternoon sunshine with us in the garden.  They have been up here a few days and had a very busy itinerary!  Their plan is to get away early today in the hope of missing the Bank Holiday rush on the roads.
===========================
i got rid of yesterdays spiders web on the downgarden cam but the owner is not giving up yet!
this jackdaw is having a go at trying to eat part or all of the fatballs just now
================
Weatherwise right now
 its feeling a little cool out this morning as we start off with a single figure Temp
the weathercam though is showing a clear sky start.  The weather forecasters would have us believe that we are in for some rain today but as usual they cant agree on how much and when - - -

Drink water to lose weight! & hand op day yesterday went well

The incredible story of the news reporter and her cameraman killed while out on a broadcast hit the news yesterday.  it turns out the killer was an ex colleague who then went on to post a video of the actual killing on Facebook! - - -
The banner headline about "A pint of water before each meal is the key to losing weight" is an interesting study on 2 groups by "experts" - - -
===================
This story might get you reaching for  a duster as it reveals how thousands of microbes are found in dust samples from a study of "house dust"  A staggering statistic is that one sample was found to have "more than 2000 types of fungi in it! - - -
===========================
We had an early start yesterday as it was my hand operation day so cruising down the A38 towards Derby we joined all the commuters dashing to work.  The The day case hand centre at Royal Derby Hospital kicks off early and there were a number of people already waiting to get in when i arrived just before 07:30
The "sausage machine" starts with booking in then any number of interviews before i see the surgeon Miss O'Brien. She reiterates that the crooked little finger might
not be able to be straightened and that one lump on the tendons of my middle finger are going to be left because the Op on the problem bits will take a long time anyway.
Rather than a general anaesthetic an arm block is used  where a needle is introduced into the neck and the various nerves to the arm are anaesthetised.  I could see the jugular vein and nerve tissue on an ultra scan on a laptop being used to locate the various nerves and apart from it being an uncomfortable 20 minutes its ok.
Once that's done its into the theatre where Miss O'Brien and a team of 4 do their bit, i could just see what they were doing from a reflection on one of the big theatre lights.
Half way through i'm told the little finger is fine and will be straight in the end! so after two and a half hours since i hopped on the first trolley i'm stitched up and having a cup of tea in the recovery room.  While getting dressed, try that with only one hand, and a dead weight other arm swinging around ! i notice blood coming through the bandage and Emma one of the recovery nurses packs more gauze and bandage on it rather than undo the whole thing.  That all done i'm on my way rejoicing back home to be spoiled rotten by Sally.
keeping the hand elevated above the heart to reduce post op swelling is the main thing and once the nerve block wears off, about midnight in my case, its popping the pain pills for a few days before i go back Tuesday for the therapy and night splint appt.
=========================
I noticed this pic on the downgarden cam last night, the IR light is on and picking up a spiders web in front of the camera with raindrops on it - - -
===========================
 Mr Squirrel is enjoying his sunflower seed breakfast
 not a bad Temp outside and the Barometric tendency is looking good
the weathercam view shows a bit of cloud about but forecasters are optimistic about some sunshine today
