I managed another walk yesterday with Sally accompanying me for the first mile then returning home. This one's a good 2 hour duration.
starting at around 09:00 and once more walking North along the River Derwent which is only a few strides from our front door
just before the village at Rowsley it a right turn and a gradual ascent for the next 40 minutes. The Temp is still at minus 1 so a view West towards Bakewell is rewarded with a mist shrouded valley view
the wheelie bins here belong to a farm about a mile up the hill - - - i cant imagine them dragging them up and down! the significant bit here though is the sign leaning against the fencepost. It proclaims that this land belongs to the Haddon Hall estate - - -
tramping on through the woods after leaving the track in the pic above i approach another metalled track and notice that a new fence has been put up around a long closed quarry. This Notice of Planning is attached to it and it proclaims that this is Chatsworth Estate land and the estate is reopening it - - -
the "health and safety" bods are well in evidence on the new fence and the quarry cliff can be seen in the background with obvious signs that it is once again being worked
striding on upwards I make the open ground very close to the moors edge and get a view of 3 Lapwings taking off from their breakfast foraging
at the top of the walk now and the view is quite clear despite the mist
this old stone barn and its outbuildings mark the highest point of the walk - - - des res etc - - -
descending I cross a very icy minor road which drops down the hill to the village of Beeley
back into the woods and it would be a right fork here for Chatsworth House, I'm going left through the forest and a good downhill stretch
crossing the stream over a few slippery stepping stones and onwards
coming out of the forest for the last time down towards Beeley with the Chatsworth state hills in the background
at this time of year its hard to imagine that this fence line is heavy with blackberries
this curious little settlement contains what looks like a bread oven similar to the Peak Organics one just above our garden. There's also a very old steam driven saw which has a small pile of abandoned cut planks next to it - - - seems a bit of a waste - - -
leaving Beeley its only a mile and a half back down the river to home
i managed to spot this on the website yesterday, a pigeon is just about to land on the feeders
the stats disappeared earlier from the weather console once again so im trying a method of updating it more frequently in an effort to keep it active.
the weathercam pic looks across a snowy valley this morning. Its been snowing on and off since around 19:30 last night. Earlier on the Temp must have increased because the snow is very wet at the moment.
Enjoy the day
