Sepp accepts the Red Card & Our Laburnum gets the bullet

Care home funding  for the elderly comes under the spotlight on the front page today but the death of the Scottish MP Charles Kennedy and Sepp Blatter at last accepting the "Red Card" also make the headlines
Things dont look good in the Yangtze river  tragedy as the ferry remains upside down.  A video from another ship shows the ferry passing and lightening lighting up the sky moments before the accident.   Hundreds of people remain unaccounted for

Closer to home the leaning laburnum in the front garden had some early morning rescue work done when we replaced the snapped retaining post.
with the new post in i used a 56lb weight to try and stop the tree toppling over
We left the concrete to set while we visited old friends in my home town of Leigh in the morning.
As we lunched at the The Wanted Inn in Sparrowpit we could not help noticing the strong winds of the previous day and night had, as forecast, returned with a vengeance

Returning home we assessed the situation as we tied the tree to the new post only to see it immediately dislodged, here Sally stands back as the wind does its work.
after cutting off most of the limbs we even considered leaving this big one on but looking around the root we could see it had sunk into the ground
so in the end that one had to go too
Pondering on the fact "you cant really kill a tree by cutting it down" i survey the 2 remaining blooms on the trunk and we decide to leave it "as is" and see if it will sprout new growth next year.  If it does we will keep it trimmed "very short"
however, Tempus Fugit or as we joke "tempers fuggit" and as the day is still very windy but also very sunny we retreat to the garden.
the swinging seat cushions are in place
and we toast the passing of our dear Laburnum with a Large Gin and Tonic! - - -

Today
nice warm stats again and thankfully little or no wind for today
The weathercam is looking at a very cloudy sky but the forecast is for it to clear and leave us with a dry sunny day

Enjoy the day
