An amusing day at the "Salt mine", to finish off my set of shifts. Sainsbury's quite rightly don't want to be having items on shelves out of date but sometimes its inevitable that the odd item will "slip through the net!"
I was checking what items had "today's date on so we would have half an idea how the "reductions" phase of the day would be structured.
I came across a number of loaves with a date of (zero) 0 July but beat that a few minutes later when I picked off 5 with just "July" on the label.
Later in the day I was reducing the items and we have a special display rack for them and I had arranged a number of birthday cakes with the yellow "REDUCED" labels on them in plain view! Not plain enough for one lady who exclaimed in dismay "These have all got today's date on!?" I couldn't contain my sarcasm when I said "And that's why they are all on here!" "Oh yes" she replied and scuttled off.
A gruesome story caught my eye about how a New York Teachers remains were found 27 years after she disappeared The story go's that the husband reported her missing in December 1985 after returning from work. She "left a note" suggesting depression after losing their only child, The husband reported he had a phone call on Christmas eve telling him that she was fine but hung up when he asked where she was.
The real story was that he killed her trussed her up and stuck her behind a false wall in the house, only to be discovered once he had died last December. A contractor working on the house found the remains and she was identified by her dental records!
Yet another story about the Preacher of hate Abu Qatada, being "booted out of Britain" this time by Sunday. There have been a number of attempts but all have failed due to some technicality. Lets hope it all go's through without any hitches this time - - -
There a some fascinating if not a little sad pics in This article by the Mail000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 Ah the last group of 0 characters were added by Tom the cat! lol

Which show the decaying, once "Boom Towns" of America. Fascinating pics and a chilling story.
Our "Garden Screen" galloped on a pace yesterday with a flurry of board pinning to eventually arrive at the pics below
Here's the view from below
And then the one from the garden looking back down, even without the gate on, that's today's part of the work, It gives an air of cosiness which we didn't have looking out over the expanse between the garden and the house.
Finally - - - Tomorrow I have a trip planned down to Hereford to visit my old friend "Bulmer" to discuss the next part of my Army career book, which has stalled I have to admit due to all this nice weather. Once we have had our discussion he's going to take me along to the "coffee hour" a group of the "old timers" have every Friday. Time for some reflection and pics before dashing back North!
Finally - finally here's a pic of Tom helping out with this blog right now
Enjoy the day
